Leaving A Legacy

I want to be loved like my Grandma

So that everyone mourns when I’m gone

I want stories told at my graveside

Woven with laughter and song

Memories and tears

Joy and years

Wrapped up like a ball of yarn

Remember me on an adventure

Think of my head bowed in prayer

Pass over my quickly lost temper

And the times I was often late

May I forgive quickly

Mend the rifts swiftly

And love when it hurts the most

Meditate on my passion for Jesus

Think of how He saved my soul

Remember that He welcomes sinners

Like lost sheep into the fold

A daily embrace

by wondrous grace

We’re all prodigals welcomed home

I can see how time quickly is spinning

Dusk falls as the clock winds down

Life’s an inch on an endless rope

One breath in an ocean of sighs

Breathe child, exhale

Let the boat set sail

Leave mortality behind, Come alive!

So I’m writing a legacy journal

Each day marks another page

I have only a few precious seconds

I won’t spend my time disengaged

Fly a kite with my kids

Read them stories again

and again, and again, and again

Untangle the journey and know me

Walk a few miles in my shoes

Find joy in every new morning

Kiss your babies just one more time

For life passes by

In the blink of an eye

But eternity’s just begun
